The largest island and the classic choice: Dún Aonghasa on its cliff, the Wormhole, white-sand strands and enough to fill a full day. Rent a bike or take the minibus — it's too big to walk end to end. Ferries run from Rossaveel with a Galway-city bus connection.
Inis Oírr for a walkable day from Doolin
The smallest island and the easiest to see on foot, with a shipwreck, a ruined castle and a lighthouse. It's the shortest hop from Doolin in County Clare, which makes it the natural pick if you're on the Clare side or doing a Cliffs-of-Moher combo.
Adding the Cliffs of Moher
If you can, take an option that sails beneath the Cliffs of Moher. Seeing the cliffs rise 200 metres straight from the water — as well as from the island — is the highlight of the combo trips, and pairs Ireland's two west-coast headliners in one day.
